The mind and the sea

I hate to be near the sea, and to hear it roaring and raging like a wild beast in its den. It puts me in mind of the everlasting efforts of the human mind, struggling to be free, and ending just where it began.

William Hazlitt

Jack's Story

The Tidal Model of Mental health Recovery and reclamation focuses on the chaotic nature of human life. However, it recognises that people who are caught in the 'storm' of a mental health crisis can be helped to understand what has happened to them, and what might help them steer a course towards recovery.

Jack's Story introduces a young man given the diagnosis of 'paranoid schizophrenia', who experienced a 'breakdown' while working as an engineer on the oil rigs in the North Sea.

This film illustrates how Jack is helped to begin to reclaim his own story of distress and difficulty, as a first step towards beginning to recover control over his life.
